RefiningBy Bento, Luis San MiguelPosted on 2007-06-15 Last edited on 2010-12-08
The product obtained in Cane Sugar Mills, raw sugar, can not be consumed directly, by humans, due to the impurities it contains. A process, named refining, is necessary to obtain a edible high purity product. This process can be performed in dedicate installations in sugar mills, named white end, or in autonomous refineries. In this case the refineries are located near the sugar consumers and, normally, near a sea port. Raw sugar is transported from the mills in bulk to the refineries. The actual tendency is to improve raw sugar quality in the mills. By doing this, some steps in refing will be omitted, as Affination.
